A passion for enduring ART AND DESIGN
Peter Watts is a distinguished landscape artist renowned for his ability to portray ephemeral moments, masterfully capturing the interplay of light and shadow across the expansive skies and rural landscapes of southern Australia.
His work has received significant recognition, including being selected as a finalist in the prestigious Glover Prize in 2021, 2022, 2024 and 2026. In 2026, Peter was awarded the Glover Prize Hanger’s Award, and in 2022 he received the People’s Choice Award.
Also in 2022, he won Best in Show at the Camberwell Art Prize in Melbourne.
His artistic presence extends beyond national borders, with representation in galleries across Australia and Singapore. Born in 1963 in Horsham, Victoria, Peter draws inspiration from the dynamic cloudscapes and landscapes of southern Australia. His paintings offer nuanced interpretations of the intricate combinations of light, colour, movement and shifting atmospheres found across elevated terrains. With a discerning perspective on nature’s dynamism and beauty, Peter seamlessly navigates between realism and subtle abstraction, infusing vitality into his work.
Beyond his achievements in fine art, Peter has over three decades of involvement in the arts community. As the creative director of his design agency, Watts Design, his work in design has gained global recognition, with exhibitions in New York, London, the National Gallery of Victoria and the National Gallery of Australia. He has also served as a judge in numerous prestigious design competitions worldwide.
